What Infants Can Teach Us About Posture

in Osteoporosis Exercises

One of the foundational areas in the MelioGuide Exercise for Better Bones Program – an exercise program for people with osteoporosis, osteopenia and low bone density – is posture. I emphasize good postural form with each of my clients and I make it a critical part of the MelioGuide Exercise for Better Bones Program.

I recently was working with a client who needed a fitness program to get her back in the game after having a new baby. While working with her, I noticed that many of the movements made by her baby were back strengthening exercises one would see in any proper exercise program! In fact several of the exercises are in the MelioGuide Exercise for Better Bones Program.

Mother Nature is amazing!

I was so inspired, I filmed the baby and edited in one of the Active Level Strength exercises you will find in the MelioGuide Exercise for Better Bones Program.  The video is less than a minute and it is well worth the watch.  Take a look and notice her movements, notice how she is strengthening her back muscles, see how her “exercise” compares to the one Aline is doing in the still photo, look at the baby’s upright posture and note how well aligned it is …. and finally notice how cute she is!

I encourage you to do the baby’s routine.  You may find it to be a challenge!  But do not give up. If you are able to follow her “routine” the results will be well worth the effort.

I’m a fitness instructor who teaches specialty classes for older adults, and I have learned that clients like and learn an exercise more effectively if I can relate it to activities of daily living. The baby is an adorable and totally effective role model for spinal extension! Never thought of that! Thank you.

That was funny! Sometimes kids reminds us on why do we really need to properly sit the right way.
